Divorce is horrendous, even for celebrities. So naturally, I am delighted that all the Brady’s and Bundchen’s are moving forward positively. That is to be celebrated.

However, many of us, men and women, are financially devastated by divorce. So I have to ask why so many people pour their hearts out in support of celebrities who will never know just how difficult that challenge is, on top of the emotional difficulties that everyone feels.

I get it; we are a celebrity-obsessed culture, and everything about celebrities gets bright exposure. However, the amount of animosity from one “normal” person to another over who was most “wronged” seems way out of proportion to the incredible luxury some celebrities enjoy and just how easy it is for them to pick up the pieces and spend their money on pleasures that most of us will never come anywhere near experiencing.

Is material wealth a substitute or repair for emotional baggage? No, of course not. But let’s be clear: the financial fears that come with divorce, especially divorce after a long-term relationship, are an intense burden that will never be felt by many celebrities. So let’s spend a little less time obsessing about which celebrity has been “wronged” the most and a little more time putting our arms around the shoulders of someone who will struggle for many years, if not the rest of their life, due to divorce.
